So, in case you didn’t know, the Collingsworth Family got a new album (Mercy and Love) out on Friday, and it is the bomb! You should check it out if you haven’t yet. After hearing a song from their album, I decided to blog about it.
I got the idea to do a song inspiration blog from my friend Maddison’s blog. You should check it out, she did a blog on the song “Different” by Micah Tyler. It was really good.
One of the Collingsworth Family songs, “Your Ways are Higher than Mine”, has really talked to me. Ever since the first time I heard it, I told Allana, “That’ll be a good prayer song!” That’s how we sort the songs…there are prayer songs, happy songs (upbeat gospel and such), exercise songs, and fun songs (those that are so much fun to bellow out at the top of your voice). Lol. 😀 😀
The lyrics has really spoken to me and made me do some deep thinking.
Your Ways are Higher than Mine
It’s not what I prayed for, it’s not what I wanted
It’s not something I understand
My circumstances seem so confusing,
I’m placing it all in your hands
Your ways are higher than mine
I want mountains to move, you want me to climb
So I’m gonna trust your work, your will, and your time
Your ways are higher than mine
One day I’m sure I will look back and marvel
At how you knew best all along
You see from Heaven, You know it’s the hard times
That make my faith steady and strong
When I start to doubt, help me believe
That somewhere high above me…
How true are these lyrics? I want mountains to move, but He wants me to climb. I’m gonna trust Him, though.
I felt like crying when I heard it, because it’s so easy to relate to. How many times in my life have I prayed this? When something goes wrong, it’s so easy to question God. We say, “Why, God?” instead of trusting that He sees the bigger picture, and knows what’s best for us.
Isaiah 55:8-9 King James Version (KJV)
8 For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord.
9 For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.
In 2016, there were a lot of things that happened that greatly affected my life. That was probably one of the most “maturing” years of my life, because the responsibility I bore. There were several things that happened where I had to assume the oldest role, and it was very hard. I remember questioning a lot of things that happened to me, wondering why God was allowing them to happen.
I remember that when I got to Heritage that year, there were lots of questions in my mind. On the last night, I was praying, and I just couldn’t get my victory. I was feeling the pain of betrayal because of a situation that was going on at that very moment…betrayal from someone very close to my family.
As I was praying, a pastor very close to our family came with his wife and began to pray for me. He kept saying, “Your ways are higher than mine, Lord. Who am I to question You? You are the sovereign all-knowing God. Help me to trust Your ways”. As I was praying I began to change my prayer and take on a different attitude: the attitude of trusting in Him. That night I was able to get my victory, but not only that, I was able to feel peace from God.
He really does know what is best for us; we can know and trust that He never fails. Isn’t it nice that we serve a God who cares about us, down to every last detail?
This song has been on repeat, as well as the others from their album. Y’all need to check their album out!
This song just made me think, and I wanted to share my thoughts with you guys!
Thanks for reading, and let’s trust in Him!
